The secondary sector accounts for 22% of the Gross National Product.

The industrial sector is dominated by food‐processing industries, followed by textile and leather industries.

The government encourages light processing activities and labor-intensive sectors. In 1990 a Free Zone was set up, which offers henceforth a favorable environment for industrial investments, using local labor.

Companies registered with the Free Zone status benefit from huge customs and tax incentives.

The status of export processing zone can be granted to any exporting company, duly registered in Togo, regardless of its location on the national territory.
